Our perspective

Kashmir and its people are the focus of this encyclopedia. We examine the actions of Indian, Pakistani and Chinese authorities through their effects on people, political agency, land and rights. No government’s territorial claim is treated as a substitute for the voices of the people affected. We also scrutinize Kashmiri rulers, parties and armed groups. Support for Kashmir does not require concealing harm or treating every Kashmiri as holding the same political view.

What the labels mean

Primary document

A treaty, resolution or official record. It establishes what its author wrote or decided, not necessarily the truth of every assertion.

Reported finding

A conclusion reached by an identified inquiry, journalist or rights organization. Methods and limitations matter.

Allegation or testimony

An attributed account whose status must not be silently changed into a conviction, or dismissed merely because officials deny it.

Political position

A person or organization’s argument about autonomy, independence, accession or another future. Inclusion is not a claim of unanimous support.

Dates, gaps and corrections

The timeline contains selected records. A missing year means that this edition has no entry for it, not that nothing happened. Early periods are especially selective. Historical reporting does not establish the current status of litigation.

Send a correction with the page address, the disputed passage, your proposed change and a verifiable source. Significant published corrections will be recorded in the entry and the project’s revision history.

People before spectacle

We document armed struggle, state violence, civilian harm and political resistance. We do not publish operational guidance, recruitment material, threats or calls to attack people. Civilian protection is not conditional on identity or political loyalty.

Contributing responsibly

This public forum is not a confidential evidence repository. Do not send identifying witness details, private documents or intimate imagery. Public posts and ordinary chat are not end-to-end encrypted.
