COVERAGE & GAPS
What is here.
What still needs work.
The archive begins with early settlements and kingdoms. These counts describe published material, not the number of events that happened. No period is marked complete.
Full topic articles contain a developed account. Brief records identify an event but still need expansion. A blank period is a research gap, never evidence that nothing happened.

Records without an established year are listed separately at the end of the timeline and excluded from these period counts.
How dates are handled
Prehistoric phases may span centuries. Medieval reigns may be dated in a different calendar. A month is added only when the evidence supports it. Later periods require a year-by-year and month-by-month review, including searches that produce no verified addition.
Work still ahead
Large gaps remain in settlement history, the sultanates, Afghan and Sikh rule, village histories, women’s lives, labour, displacement and individual incidents of violence. Existing modern records also need fuller accounts of their background, aftermath and subsequent investigations.
The broad period labels organize the archive. They do not imply that every region experienced a change of rule in the same year.
