Shopian: the deaths of Asiya and Neelofar Jan

The deaths of Asiya Jan and Neelofar Jan prompted allegations of rape and murder, protests and demands for an independent investigation. Amnesty’s June 2009 statement recorded the early allegations and unrest. In December, the CBI told the court that the women had drowned and had not been raped or murdered.
